24 April, Sweden - Växjö
Since the 17th century Swedes have emigrated and settled in South Africa. The history on this Swedish emigration has until now been virtually unknown.
The research by researcher Christer Blomstrand and TV-journalist Marika Griehsel has now resulted in both a Documentary Film for Swedish Television with Marika Griehsel as Producer and an Exhibition produced by the Swedish Emigration Institute in Växjö, with Christer Blomstrand as Project Manager.
The film "Afrikafararna" (the Africa Travellers) a 60 minute, partly dramatised, documentary will be shown on Swedish Television during the month of May.
The Exhibition, with the same name, will open at the Emigration Institute in Växjö (southern Sweden) on Saturday, April 24. A part of this Exhibition, some unique black and white photographs from the late 19th century will be shown at the Ethnographic Museum in Stockholm from the 27th of April.
